System description

In order to encourage our teachers who offer EMI courses for the first time or transform Chinese-taught courses into EMI courses, our school provides teaching assistants (TAs) and teaching support resources for EMI courses, hoping to reduce the teaching burden of teachers. In May 2011, our school passed the "Key Points of Subsidy for Teaching Assistants of All English Major Courses of our School". We will train teaching assistants to assist teachers in teaching-related business for eligible EMI courses. In EMI classrooms, teaching assistants act as a communication bridge between teachers and students to improve student learning outcomes.

Assistance project

Pre-class training: Participate in the bilingual teaching promotion resource center EMI professional course teaching assistant training workshop
Pre-class assistance: Preparatory work before the course (such as preparation of teaching materials and teaching aids, operation of teaching tools, etc.)
Classroom Assistance: Participate in the classroom assigned by the teacher to assist in the management of classroom groups (Line, ee-class)
After-class assistance: The teacher chooses the designated class, and the TA assists in recording the highlights of the class and writing the work record sheet.
Course teaching evaluation: EMI course teaching feedback and student opinion statement
Mid-term and final evaluation: assist teachers in invigilation and roll call; discuss students' learning status with teachers (depending on the actual needs of teachers)
Extracurricular tutoring: assist in tutoring report writing skills, assist in explaining homework answers, etc. (depending on the actual needs of the instructor)

Application Process

All EMI teachers at our school can apply according to the needs of the actual teaching situation. The application steps are as follows:

Find a suitable teaching assistant (English ability must be above CEFR B2)
Fill in the teaching assistant application form (the department organizer and supervisor will verify the seal)

Send the application form to the bilingual program office of the school

Teaching assistant tasks

Teaching assistants are required to complete the following tasks during each semester:

1 article on EMI teaching assistant training experience
1 classic film of EMI course
1 copy of EMI teaching assistant work record sheet (including course activity record outline)
1 copy of EMI student course interview record (just follow the interview outline provided by the office)
1 copy of EMI teacher’s teaching interview record (according to the interview outline provided by the office)
Online evaluation form for EMI course teaching (just send it to students through the link provided by the office)
